Getting in the zone

Having a productive day can seem a bit difficult for a lot of persons. They are so many distractions out there from email and social media notifications. Friends calling you, sometimes even talking about irrelevant topics that is not adding any value to your life at all.  All these distractions can really affect your output. Even if you are working at a huge company.  Which at times you are going to have to attend meetings that are sometime pretty irrelevant.

Overtime working throughout the years in many different environments I have learnt a technique from my friend. It’s called getting in the zone. That is a technique I think a lot of you might know but you tend to overlook. He told me that every morning when he woke up he planned out his day. He also told me that he knows that for a certain period in any particular day. He is always at his absolute best in terms of productivity and that’s when he tends to do his most impactful task.

The moment after he said that I was really intrigued in what he was saying so I asked him to elaborate more. He later stated we all have a time of the day when we are just super focused and feel this rush of energy to do amazing work. It took me a while to really understand what he was saying. But at first it sounds a bit esoteric. Because back then I believed that you can just work anytime of the day and get work done. That was my take on what he was saying.

The day I understood what he was talking about I said to myself, “Why I never thought of this simple 101 productivity trick all along”. It was simple but very effective. What I later understood was that I worked at my best between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. That’s the period when the neurons in my brain is just mapping and absorbing huge amounts of data. That’s the when I just tell everybody to leave me alone. So I can get some work done at a productive level.

The way I used to work before I implemented that technique was I used to get stuff done. But deep down I just know I could be more productive. Because when I work sometimes I usually feel a bit lazy and unmotivated doing really important task. I used to even wonder why I even felt this way. Looking back now, I was working way out of my zone.

I was working in a period when my brain was tired and my body is drained. Now I am just killing it, in terms of getting work done. It’s up to you personally to know when is your getting in the zone period everybody is different. A lot of persons tend to get in the zone in the early morning when they just woke up, some do it in the evening. While others do it late in the night.

I knew a guy who runs his entire online freelance business from his home. What he usually does on a daily basis is, get clients from early in the morning and then take a long nap throughout the day. He later would eat his dinner, take a shower then sleep again until its 2 a.m. in the morning when everywhere is so silent.  Then he gets to work and deliver those client’s projects the next morning.

At first it’s going to take a while to know which time of the day is your getting in the zone time. But it’s all going to be worth it. So prepare to do a lot of experiments on the different periods of the day to find when is your getting into the zone period. Trust me when you do it’s going to be awesome.
